Vibrant Christian SpiritualitySimply put, this means to be increasingly transformed into the image of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18). This needs to be the goal of every Christian. Dallas Willard writes, "The outcome of spiritual formation is ... the transformation of the inner reality of the self in such a way that the deeds and works of Jesus become a natural expression of who we are" (Renovation of the Heart, 165-166).
Transformation occurs naturally as we partner with the Holy Spirit in our lives. In Ephesians 5:18, Paul tells us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. While the Holy Spirit is working in our lives, molding and changing us, we also need to do our part in this divine-human partnership. In 1 Timothy 4:7b-8, Paul tells us to "train [ourselves] to be godly," as "godliness has value ... for both the present life and the life to come."
