Station: Soldiers Gamble Over Jesus' Garments. Meditate on the Images, Scripture and Text below.
|
Scripture:The soldiers offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. They divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. “He saved others,”they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said,“since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him,“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Matt.

- Meditation -
Jesus, as you hang on a cross – others don’t understand who you really are. They don’t know of your true royalty and divinity. Instead they gamble over your possessions. Help us O Lord not to trivialize or mock your divinity. You are our Lord, Our God, Our King and Savior.
Others give you vinegar mixed with gall and myrrh, intending to help your suffering. However nothing could minimize both the physical and spiritual suffering that you endured for our sins. Forgive us O Lord, for the suffering we caused you. We love you for carrying our sins and bearing our shame.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
